The Alcazaba of Málaga is a palatial fortification of the Muslim era, built on an earlier fortification of Phoenician-Punic origin. It is located on the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro, in an elevated position but contiguous and linked to the historic center of the city, which was the old madina of Malaga, and on top of which is the Gibralfaro Castle.

It occupied the eastern end of the former walled enclosure of the city, so that the fronts of midday, west and north were within the walls. Its current area of 15,000 square meters does not reach even half the size it had in its heyday, as evidenced by preserved historical plans.
